Andrew Van der Vaart 2005 Scholarship Winner

The 2005 UVA Club of the Triangle Scholarship winner is Andrew Van der Vaart!

Andrew attended St. David's School and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Andrew excelled in student government as Class President, was an All-Conference tennis player, a National Merit Finalist, and won many awards for his creative writing.

We are pleased to award him with a $500 Scholarship (made possible by member donations from 2004-2005) to defray the costs of his first year.

Andrew will be attending the College of Arts & Sciences this fall, where he is interested in pursuing studies in English and/or Philosophy.

Congratulations to Andrew, and well wishes for an exciting and successful experience at UVA.

The UVA Club of the Triangle awards an annual scholarship, as administered and maintained by the Education Committee.

The Triangle Hoos provide one scholarship annually to a local student attending UVA in the fall.

To apply, the candidates had to submit a maximum 400-word essay on a provided topic. A committee rated the entries according to three criteria: creativity, clarity, and use of the English language.

Scholarship applications are mailed by the Club after notification of those accepting the UVA offer of admission (our list of addresses is provided by UVA's Office of Admissions.)
